Senior Manager, Sales

The Senior Manager, Sales is responsible for the overall efficient and effective guidance and leadership of the Sales department towards the achievement of the hotel’s overall sales revenue and financial objectives. The Senior Manager, Sales has responsibility of the Sales and Marketing Budget/P&L, revenue forecasting, developing and writing strategic business plans. The Senior Manager, Sales assists the General Manager in setting and achieving both financial and service goals. All service provided is expected to be consistent with Marriott brand standards and achieved by leveraging the Marriott sales and marketing systems.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manages the development of a strategic account plan for the demand generators in the market.
  • Provides customer intelligence in evaluating the market and economic trends that may lead to changes in sales strategy to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Develops and implements property–wide strategies that deliver products and services to meet or exceed the needs and expectations of the brand’s target customer profile and property associates and provides a return on investment to the owner and Marriott International.
  • Research competitor’s sales team strategies to identify ways to grow occupancy and RevPAR and increase market share.
  • Negotiate rates and contracts, in line with company objectives and goals, while still maintaining excellent relations with clients.
  • Identifies, qualifies and solicits new business to achieve personal and property revenue goals to achieve personal and team related revenue goals.
  • Plans and participate in Sales calls, sales missions and identify markets with opportunity.
  • Plan, direct and evaluate all sales and marketing activities of the hotel.
  • Work closely with the Revenue Manager to effectively yield rates for all market segments based on need periods. Help with Optimal Business Mix for Hotel. Aggressively direct & drive catering revenues as per budget, including analyzing competitive pricing to ensure correct positioning related tothe hotel’s competition.
  • Manage and evaluate the financial operations of the sales & marketing initiatives to ensure cost effectiveness and optimum utilization of resources by preparing and presenting profit plans/budgets to approving authorities.
  • Monitor and control departmental expenditures as per budget.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate short-term tactics and long-range marketing/sales plans and programs by focusing on customer needs and expectations.
  • Identify and research trends as they relate to the hospitality industry.
  • Provide direction, leadership, feedback and support to divisional associates by planning, supervising and evaluating work.
  • Recruitment and hiring of sales staff, training, managing and coaching sales managers in their selling process in order to meet company goals and maximize hotel revenues.
  • Promote and encourage inter-departmental cooperation and communication to improve customer service and overall satisfaction.
  • Review and implement pricing strategies for group and transient business segments.
  • Work closely with the General Manager & Director of Revenue Management to deliver budgeted sales strategies.
  • Evaluates the property’s participation in the various sales channels and develops strong working relationships to proactively position and market the property.
  • Collaborates with Marriott Digital Marketing and SilverBirch Marketing on social media engagement and updating content in local digital channels (e.g., hotel website, travel sites).
  • Manages the marketing budget to enable development of property specific campaigns, promotions and collateral to drive revenue and meet property objectives.
  • Identifies public relations opportunities and coordinates activities to augment the overall marketing communication strategy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

Experience, Training and Education:

  • University or college degree in Hotel Management/Business Administration.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a related sales role, preferably in the hotel environment.
  • Ability to develop and achieve goals and objectives.
  • Experience with accurate forecasting and analysis of results.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office working conditions, occasional travel required.
  • Lifting of supplies, material/collateral.
